Significance of the Cross

The cross is usually presented in a lot of different styles. Some people use it as personal jewelry while others are seen on top of church buildings or cemetery plots. Catholic crosses are usually shown in crucifix form, with a figure of Christ on it. However, Protestants depict the cross without the body of Christ because they believe that it best represents the resurrection.
One of the important Christian celebrations is the Feast of the Cross. The Exaltation of the Cross is one of twelve great feasts in Eastern Orthodoxy. This commemorates the consecration of the basilica on the site where the original cross of Jesus was reportedly discovered in 326 AD.
